‘Emergency’ poet, Deborah Alma, and former Poet Laureate of Roz Goddard come together on June 15th to celebrate the positive impact poetry can have on ones wellness. Enjoy an inspiring day devoted to poetry and reading in the historic surroundings of the Birmingham & Midlands Institute.
The poetry spa day falls on the Creativity and Well-being week and the workshop is a gentle introduction into writing the self through poetry to show the benefits writing can have. The day will consist of a series of enjoyable exercises and the sharing of poetic texts and conversation which will help to transform the material of the self into imaginative writing, focusing on the positive to help achieve self-acceptance, calmness and to be fully in the moment. There will be no pressure for you to share your writing, just bring yourself.
On the day, you will receive a free copy of ‘Dirty Laundry’, the highly-celebrated, daring and honest poetry book by Deborah Alma and a Reading Spa gift pack as part of your ticket price. Also, on offer will be a limited number of 15 minute poetry consultations from the Emergency Poet, a poetic first-aid service prescribing poems as cures, plus a free anthology to take away.
A day of friendly discussions, absorption in poetry, a writing workshop and a glorious afternoon tea. What more could you want?
The event is on the 15th of June 2019, from 10am to 4pm in the Birmingham & Midlands Institute.
