2018 marked a century since women first won the right to vote, and over the past hundred years a lot of work has driven the feminist movement to where it is today. Women Power Protest is an exhibition currently on at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, showcasing over 55 female contemporary artists using protest, social commentary and identity to shape their work.
Through paintings, photography, sculpture and installation art, this exhibition highlights the immense amounts of progress made since the Women’s Suffrage Movement of the early 20th century; while posing the question of just how much has changed?
Celebrating the likes of Lucy Gunning, Susan Hiller, Lubaina Himid and Sonia Boyce, this exhibition raises awareness and sparks debate inspired by the bold, sometimes controversial works of these feminist artists and activists.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to visit, the display is on for just another month – ending on Sunday 31st March.
