Cookery courses are a great way to broaden your culinary horizons and create some sensational and exotic dishes from the comfort of your own kitchen. Wave goodbye to takeaways with Japanese cookery classes at Loaf Bakery and Cookery School.
Loaf is based in Stirchley, South Birmingham and aims to promote real food and healthy living in the local community. They do so by reviving forgotten traditional skills, recipes and methods and present them in their ‘Real Food Manifesto’ in local cookery courses.
If you’re interested in making sushi and other traditional Japanese dishes, join Loaf and expert cookery tutor Lap-fai Lee to unlock some Asian flavour in your kitchen. Lap says, “cooking Japanese food need not be daunting at all. Japanese home cooking is really straight forward and above all satisfying to eat.
This course is hands on. You’ll be learning how to cure fish, prepare sushi rolls, make dashi, nasu degaku, tonkatsu, miso soup and, most importantly, properly cook rice! Obviously, there will be tasting throughout the evening, and you are guaranteed to leave with a whole new outlook on home cooking.
From £65, the 3-hour course is usually on a weekday evening in May. The course is not suitable for vegans or vegetarians, but the ingredients are gluten free.
