The Games will provide more jobs and help develop towns across the city such as such as Perry Bar, with improvements also to transport infrastructure.
The Birmingham 2020 Commonwealth Games will take place between the July (27) and August (7).
The games will be the biggest sporting and cultural event ever held in the city, with thousands of world class athletes coming to compete in the city.
It is projected that there will be over a million spectators and an estimated global TV audience of 1.5 billion but the preparations have been delivered in unprecedented circumstances after the initial hosting rights were given to Durban in March 2017 before being awarded to Birmingham in the December.
Birmingham 2022 will open up a wealth of opportunities, including business and trade, cultural engagement, volunteering, physical activity, jobs and skills, education and tourism. Over 1 million tickets will be made available for spectators from across the UK and around the world.
Perry Bar will serve as the Commonwealth Games village during the 2020 games, receiving a £496 development of 1,400 new homes. The development will be supported by £165m of government funding from the Ministry of Housing.
The Commonwealth Games is projected to raise the profile of the Perry Bar area with the development of a new, high-quality residential neighbourhood.
The Games will also benefit from investment in transport infrastructure including by Transport for West Midlands. This includes improvements at Perry Barr and University stations and new SPRINT rapid bus routes, subject to the necessary approvals. Passengers across the region will benefit from these proposals long after the Games end in 2022.
